Christmas Break

It's so nice to home for Christmas Break! I'm loving it here in Louisville. I came home on the 13th after my finals, and I don't have to go back until the 8th. It's so crazy to think that I've finished my first semester of college! I got my grades back the other day, and I successfully finished with a 3.7 :). I was really happy with that, especially considering that I thought college was going to be really tough and hard. I look back on all the work I did this semester and I'm really proud of myself. I wrote a 12 page paper, had countless essays to write, and had many tests to study for. Now that I've survived all that, I feel pretty confident going into this next semester! I'm just so happy to be done with Algebra and English classes for the rest of my life!

On another note, Christmas is in 2 days! It's amazing how fast that this year has flown. A lot has changed this year! I graduated high school, traveled Europe, and began college; just to name a few. I've met so many new people, and I'm really thankful for everything that has happened this year. I'm looking forward to 2012, and can't wait to see what God has in store for me this coming year! :)

It's Finally Christmastime at CU!

Yesterday, my awesome roommate Alex and I went shopping for a Christmas tree to put outside our room in the hallway. We found this awesome tree at Big Lots, then found sparkly pink and silver ornaments at Walmart and the Dollar Tree :) I can't believe it's already time to start decorating for Christmas! Only three more weeks until I'm back in Louisville for a 3 week break! I'm looking forward to it, but I think I might actually miss Campbellsville hahaha. I've met a ton of great people, I've adjusted well to the college life, and I love being here!

Where Did This Semester Go?!

It feels like just yesterday I was moving into my dorm room at Campbellsville University! Now, its the beginning of November and the semester ends in the middle of December. So far, I've written many essays, taken lots of tests, and just turned in a 12 page paper. College hasn't been as stressful as I thought it was going to be in the beginning of August. I've managed my time really well, and as a result, I'm able to find time to finish all my homework, study, socialize, and play tennis :). I'm so thankful that God put me at Campbellsville University. I feel so at home here; it's the perfect distance from Louisville, and I've made so many great friends so far. And I've only been here for a little over 2 months! I can't wait to see how the rest of the semester is going to go. Only a couple more weeks until Thanksgiving Break!

My Newest Hobby

This past week I've found a new hobby...tennis! I started playing a week ago with a couple of friends and now I think it's safe to say that I've become addicted. This week I played tennis for more than 15 hours! I'm surprised I love it so much, because I wouldn't exactly describe myself as athletic. In high school, I was never into sports or anything. But each day I'm getting better and better, and I've only been playing one full week. I got myself a pink tennis racket on Friday, and I love it! Hopefully if I keep this up, I'll start getting really good! :)

Family Weekend!

Today my parents came up to visit me for the weekend. It was so nice getting to see them again. We walked around campus, went to dinner, and went to a comedy show in the chapel. It was also my mom's birthday today, so I bought her a cake and surprised her with it :). Tomorrow we're going to have lunch together, and then my parents are going to head back home. After that, there's a football game, and then I have the rest of the weekend to relax!

Repair Affair!

Today was Repair Affair! Repair Affair is a part of my freshman first year experience class, called "First Class." Every group has a day where we get to go out to a person's house and help build whatever they need. We worked with a company called Kentucky Heartland Outreach, which is kind of like Habitat for Humanity. All of us got on a bus around 8:30 A.M., and we headed toward this old woman's house in Greensburg, about 10 miles away. We worked on building her a deck and a new set of stairs, because hers were old and apparently she had trouble getting down them. Today, I also got to try several things I had never done before. I used a sledgehammer, hammer, AND a table saw. It was a day of firsts for me haha. By the end of the day, the woman had a new deck and set of stairs on her house! It was really fun to hang out with my first class group, and it was nice to be able to help someone out.

First College Test!

This week I had my first college test! I wasn't sure how hard it was going to be, but it ended up not being that bad. It was in Macroeconomics, so it was basically the same stuff I had learned last semester in high school. It was matching and essay, and for the matching the teacher gave us a word bank. I'm pretty sure I did well, and hopefully he'll grade the tests soon!

Other than studying for tests, college has been so fun! My friends and I are always doing things around campus, and it's a blast. The only bad thing is that lots of people go home on the weekends here, so it gets really quiet and its easy to get bored. Last weekend, it was just me and Sarah in the house! My mom and grandma came to visit me and have lunch on Saturday, and it was great seeing them. This weekend, I'm actually going to go home with Lauren, because it will be the last time we go home before Fall Break on October 20th. I'm so excited! I miss Louisville. Campbellsville is nice, but there's really not a whole lot to do here. Plus, it'll be great seeing my family again. And my two little Scottish Terriers; I've missed them! I just have to get through today's classes and one tomorrow, and then I'm on my way home. :)

Getting into the College Routine

So far, college life is pretty great! There have been so many events this past week so I've been pretty busy. Also, I've started getting more assignments in my classes. Two English papers, one History paper, and Algebra homework. But I've already got most of it done, so I have a free weekend :) Today was also one of the first semi sunny days we've had all week, so I took my bike for a ride and went up to McDonald's. I really hope it stays this way for the whole weekend, or else I'll have nothing else to do!

Classes Have Started!

So far, classes are going great! All my teachers seem really nice and caring, which makes me feel a lot better! Here's how the first day of classes went: my Comp II teacher referred to herself as a "loose cannon", and her policy on sleeping in class is: "If you fall asleep, everyone else's class participation points for that day will be determined by the number of paper wads they can land in your gaping mouth or on the back of your neck.." My history teacher started off class by saying, "Welcome to Advanced Physics", and then the rest of the class she kept talking about how cute this Scottish guy's accent was. Then I had Algebra, which so far is ridiculously easy. I finished all of my math homework in an hour, and even worked ahead.

The second day of class also went well. My first class was Macroeconomics, but it didn't start until 11, which was so nice. The teacher was also nice and said he's going to drop our lowest test grade. I didn't think professors in college did that! Also, our only papers are going to be 4 short one page essays. After that I had an hour break, and then I had to go to my First Class group, which was easy. Then I had Intro to Physical Activity, and we got out 20 minutes early! My last class of the day was Understanding Art, which is the class farthest away from the Village. I am really excited for that class; we get to learn a lot about the different styles of art, and a lot of the book focuses on art from Spain, France, and Italy, which I visited this summer! So I think this class will be more important to me since I got to see a lot of the works of art in person. After that, I went back to my dorm and worked on homework.

I am so glad to say that so far, I've survived all my college classes. Hopefully it stays like this the whole semester!

All Moved In!

I'm finally all moved in to my dorm at Campbellsville University! We arrived at 9:45 yesterday morning, and it took several hours to unpack everything. My parents stayed until about 2:30, and it was so sad saying bye to them :(. After they left, I didn't really know what to do. It was weird thinking that I was finally on my own! I decorated my room more to make it feel like home, and now there are pictures everywhere on the walls. I do miss my parents and friends, but I'm really loving Campbellsville so far and have met a ton of people!

 All moved in! :)

 Our bathroom!

Finally finished decorating above my bed :)

3 Days Left!

I can't believe I leave for college in 3 days! It's Wednesday, and Saturday is move in day! So far I haven't really packed up my room yet. I feel like I'm bringing so much stuff to college; hopefully I can fit it all in my room! Besides packing all my stuff up, I've spent the last week or so saying bye to all my friends. Which is awful. I'm not gonna see my friends for the next few months at least. It's definitely an adjustment going from seeing all my friends all summer to not seeing them at all. Although I'm having to say goodbye to everything I've known for the past 18 years, I am excited for college. I can't wait to move in and decorate my dorm! I'm also really excited for the first few weeks, when Campbellsville has lots of events set up so the freshmen can meet lots of people. However, I'm not too excited for the classes. I just hope they won't be too hard and I won't die. Hahaha.
